An overview of the IT Support

Target Audience

The course builds on your existing user-level knowledge and experience with personal computer operating systems and networks to present fundamental skills and concepts that you will use on the job in any type of networking career. You will identify and describe all the major network and server technologies, systems, skills, and tools in use in modern PC-based computer networks, and learn information and skills that will be helpful as you prepare for the Network Engineer.

Who is it for?

This course is intended for entry-level It-Support professionals with basic knowledge of system hardware, software, and operating systems, who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of networking and server concepts and skills to prepare for a career in Network Engineer or IT-Support.

Course Content:

- Configure and apply BIOS settings. - Differentiate between motherboard components, their purposes, and properties. -Compare and contrast RAM types and features. -Install and configure expansion cards. -Install and configure storage devices and use appropriate media. -Differentiate among various CPU types and features and select the appropriate cooling method. -Compare and contrast various connection interfaces and explain their purpose. -Evaluate and select appropriate components for a custom configuration, to meet customer specifications or needs. -Given a scenario, evaluate types and features of display devices. -Identify connector types and associated cables. -Install and configure various peripheral devices.

- Explain the differences between the various printer types and summarize the associated imaging process. - Given a scenario, install, and configure printers. - Given a scenario, perform printer maintenance.

Operating Systems:

Compare and contrast the features and requirements of various Microsoft Operating Systems.

Explain the differences among basic OS security settings.

Data Types and Variables:

Operational Procedures: - Given a scenario, use appropriate safety procedures. -Explain environmental impacts and the purpose of environmental controls. -Given a scenario, demonstrate proper communication and professionalism. -Explain the fundamentals of dealing with prohibited content/activity.

Network Devices:

-Install, configure and differentiate between common network devices. -Identify the functions of specialized network devices. -Explain the advanced features of a switch. -Implement a basic wireless network.
